18-year-old Benedikt Taschen launched his eponymous brand in 1980, selling 40 000 copies of his very first art book, a tribute to René Magritte, one of his favorite artists. Today, the famous art collector and publisher and his daughter, Marlene, are at the head of the world’s favorite publishing house for books about art, architecture, film, advertising and photography. The products are organized by collections like the Taschen Basic Architecture series or the Bibliotheca Universalis series, which celebrates history’s most revered artwork. From Berlin to Paris, London and many more, the brand has installed stores designed by the likes of Philippe Starck and Marc Newson in a dozen cities. They say variety is the spice of life, so why not start by adding Helmut Newton’s iconic nudes side-by-side with Great Escapes Mediterranean or The Rolling Stones to your bookshelf.
