Prince-Bishop Johann Konrad von Gemmingen oversaw renovations of Willibaldsburg Castle in Eichstätt, Bavaria, including the creation of a renowned garden. Basilius Besler, hired as the garden director, compiled a book of plants from all four seasons, now considered a groundbreaking work of botanical illustration. These volumes feature 90 families and 340 genera, with illustrations and descriptions of each plant's botanical, pharmaceutical, and symbolic significance, along with historical essays.
